SPEA: 63% of schools receive advanced appraisal

Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) revealed the results of a field evaluation study of schools performance during the distance learning system implemented by Sharjah Private Schools during the period from March 23 to July 9, given the exceptional circumstances imposed by the global pandemic "COVID-19", and the accompanying closure of school facilities, and the move towards distance learning as an alternative to direct learning.

SPEA was keen on cooperating with an international appraisal powerhouse to oversee the evaluation process, which included 112 schools, representing 10 curricula, in order to ensure the efficiency of procedures, avoid conflicts of interests, and ensure impartiality and accuracy of data, as well as the validity and credibility of the outputs.

The assessment, which is in line with the recommendations of the education and human resources council, comes within the framework of the SPEA’s strategy to improve the quality of the remote educational system, ensure the continuous development of its standards and tools, and confirm the ability of educational institutions to harmonise, and respond quickly to any emergency, in order to maintain continuity of the teaching – learning process.

Commenting on the evaluation, Dr. Muhaditha Al Hashemi, Chairwoman of SPEA, confirmed that the study of evaluating schools' performance and its positive results reflect the efforts made to improve the performance of private schools in the emirate over the past two years, from the date of the establishment of the Authority, and to achieve the visions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in enhancing the educational position of the Emirate. These results also reflect schools’ excellence and their fruitful cooperation with the Authority to achieve the desired educational goals.

She said that the SPEA was ready for all possibilities, and strengthened its tools to transform the pandemic conditions into an educational gain, as it immediately launched a field evaluation study, using a specialised group of experts who made great efforts to measure the performance and efficiency of private schools, and to identify the strengths and challenges that need improvement in order to advance educational work, to achieve further gains.

She expressed pride in schools’ standards and their cooperation as well as their willingness to develop and improve continuously, which requires preserving the achievements by continuing the development in educational performance, especially with the actual participation of parents.

For his part, Ali Al Hosani, Director of the SPEA, pointed out that during the three months of distance learning, the authority had been keen to follow closely the progress of the educational system, adding that SPEA’s experts provided the necessary support to schools during the exceptional circumstances to make this unique experience a success.

He continued that private schools have shown a high sense of responsibility and efficiency in managing the educational process, and parents have shown a great deal of harmony and help, through their response to the directions of the schools, as they are essential partners of educational institutions, which led to the success of educational performance in light of the emergency conditions imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic. He expressed SPEA’s and his appreciation for the role of parents at this stage, and for the cooperation they showed in order to ensure the interaction of their children with the distance learning system.
